“Hu Min Global Competency Scholarship” Awarding Ceremony and “My Chinese Dream” Theme Lecture Held in XTU
On November 12, the “Hu Min Global Competency Scholarship” awarding ceremony and the “My Chinese Dream” theme lecture were held at the No.1 lecture hall of the Shaw Building.
Hu Min, founder of the scholarship, and chairman and CEO of the New Channel International Education Group, was admitted to XTU School of Foreign Languages in 1979. He, together with Professor William Brown, a foreign expert at the Business Administration Education Center of Xiamen University; Zheng Chijian and Liu Jianping, XTU vice presidents; and, Chen Liwen, director of the Xiangtan Municipal Education Bureau and also a XTU alumnus who was admitted in 1986, attended and presented awards to the winners. The conference was hosted by Liu Jianping.
“Young people should expand their international horizons, have a global vision, embrace the world, and base themselves on traditional culture, so as to make them great,” said Hu Min. He recalled his experience of studying at XTU and chasing his dream in Beijing, and encouraged students to carry forward XTU’s fine tradition of hardworking, daring to be the first, and self-improvement, to achieve their goals. At the theme lecture, Professor William Brown described his “Chinese Dream” in fluent Chinese to the audience with his own experience and knowledge in China.
William Brown has worked and lived in Xiamen University for more than 30 years. He once won the “Chinese Government Friendship Award” and was a guest of honor at the great rally to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He is the editor-in-chief of the New Channel series Stories of China Retold in English and the author of more than 10 books including Off the Wall-How We Fell for China and Magic Xiamen-Guide to Xiamen.
